Homeschool Kinder

After a week of remote (zoom) Kindergarten, we decided to withdraw Little Miss from the local school. After a few days, she was dreading the zooms; the sitting. The teacher was working super hard to bring Kinder to these kids but Little Miss was not thriving with the dynamic. She was so excited to do "real Kindergarten" (in person) but after seeing it remote learning wasn't a good fit for her, we decided to homeschool her. I'm keeping it positive but on the inside, I'm so sad for what these littles are missing in regards to getting enrichment outside the home and mostly, the playtime! Nothing can replace that peer interaction.

Our first official day of homeschool was Friday and she loved it! No groaning about another zoom time or the sitting.

We are following the Plaid Phonics curriculum which follows its own order of letters (last week we started "S") and she is already so into it! The picture cards are a great tool that coordinates with the guidebooks but the current price is spendy. Really, any form of letter/picture cards would work-like these. Last week there were "s" pictures laid out and mixed in with a few trick letters. She would point to the "s" picture and turn the "imposters" over. She LOVES using the pointer stick. It's a great way for her to feel she is an active participant in the lesson. I may get some eraser toppers. She can pick out which eraser we will use for the day and put it on the pointer.

The teacher guidebook is really helpful with suggestions for art/craft/stories/songs to creatively enhance the learning. Each day we are doing math, science, and phonics along with p.e. and art.

I have something super duper retro that I'll be exploring with her for story time this week. Hint: it involves CASSETTE TAPES! Stay tuned!
